Brewer Yacht Yard Group buys Chesapeake marinaPosted on
The Brewer Yacht Yard Group said it acquired the Oxford Boatyard and Mears Yacht Haven Marina in Oxford, Md.
The new Brewer Oxford Boatyard & Marina joins the company’s 22 other full-service marina and boatyard locations between New York and Maine.
“We are thrilled to be taking over this wonderful operation,” Brewer Yacht Yard Group president Rives Potts said in a statement. “This allows us to extend our operations further south to accommodate our existing customers who travel the East Coast each year and to gain new friends in the Chesapeake Bay area. This is a well-run boatyard/marina with great potential and we are excited about the opportunity it presents.”
Founded in 1866, Oxford Boatyard is on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The full-service yard features a 75-ton Travelift and an experienced staff of craftsmen who perform major refits to power and sailing yachts, large and small.
The combined boatyard and marina will offer dockage in more than 170 wet slips from 26 to 100 feet and will store more than100 boats on land and in sheds in the winter.
“We’ve come a long way since I first acquired OBY and Mears in the 1980s,” Mitch Nathanson, owner of the boatyard and marina since 1988, said in a statement. “I have nothing but respect for the people at Brewer and I am sure they will do a great job with OBY.”
Nathanson lives near the facility and will continue to play an important role in the local boating community.
“We’re going to lean on Mitch a little,” Potts said. “He has been a great partner in this process and I am sure we will have questions as we get started.”
