Bruntons Propellers purchased the worldwide manufacturing and marketing rights to the SigmaDrive, a transmission device for yachts and workboats that serves as both an engine and shaft coupling and as a thrust bearing.

Final meetings and the signing of contracts took place at the London Boat Show.

The British company said the SigmaDrive can cope with a 4-degree misalignment of a vessel’s shaft in all directions, 8 degrees in total, and it significantly reduces noise and vibrations.

Its designer, Stefano Cova, will continue to work with Bruntons. The SigmaDrive won the Marine Equipment, Electronics and Materials category of the Seawork Innovation Awards in 2011.

“It is the perfect complementary piece of equipment for all our sailing and fixed-bladed propellers,” Bruntons Propellers managing director Adrian Miles said in a statement. “They are already highly regarded for their low noise and vibration characteristics, and with SigmaDrive we will reduce those annoyances to negligible figures.”

The company said SigmaDrives will be available to boat owners who use propellers other than Bruntons.
