KingFisher Boats acquires Pacific Northwest builder

Canadian aluminum boat builder KingFisher Boats is growing its presence in the United States with the acquisition of Washington state-based Hells Canyon Marine.

KingFisher Boats’ Renaissance Marine Group has purchased certain manufacturing assets, inventory and rights to build and market the Hells Canyon Marine brand of welded aluminum sportboats and fishing boats, according to the Vernon Morning Star in British Columbia.

“We are always looking for ways to better serve our customers, and this asset purchase helps us do that,” Byron Bolton, KingFisher’s chief executive, told the paper.

Renaissance Marine Group builds the Duckworth, Weldcraft and Northwest Boat brands of heavy-gauge welded aluminum boats sold primarily in the western United States and Canada.

Renaissance will continue production in its Clarkston, Wash., factory and expand into the current HCM Snake River facility nearby in the Port of Wilma.

“The hiring of the talented HCM boatbuilders and an additional manufacturing facility will allow us to better meet growing demand,” Bolton said. “Our vision is to become the preferred heavy-gauge aluminum boat manufacturer.”

KingFisher Boats, which has a plant at Swan Lake in Vernon, B.C., purchased Washington state’s Renaissance Marine Group in 2012.
