Lifesaving awards handed out at Florida conferencePosted on
The Conference of Professional Operators for Response Towing and the Association For Rescue At Sea presented their distinguished lifesaving award Jan. 12-14 at the 27th C-PORT Conference in Clearwater Beach, Fla.
“The excellence of service depicted with this year’s nominations was some of the highest we have seen,” AFRAS president and retired Coast Guard Capt. Steve Sawyer said in a statement. “It was impossible to select one recipient.”
Receiving the award were Capts. George Farrell and Daniel Higgins of TowBoatUS Yonkers, N.Y., and Capt. Les Trafford of Sea Tow Shinnecock/Moriches, Hampton Bays, N.Y.
C-PORT also presented lifesaving awards to nine captains who represented seven of C-PORT’s member companies
“We are pleased to present lifesaving awards to these representatives of the marine assistance industry,” C-PORT executive director Tina Cardone said in a statement.
Lastly, C-PORT presented its Compass Rose Award to Capt. Terry Hill, owner of Potomac Marine Inc./TowBoatUS Potomac in Woodbridge, Va.
“A compass rose shows true direction,” Cardone said. “This award is presented to someone who is dedicated to making the marine assistance industry better through their hard work and desire to make boating an enjoyable experience for everyone they meet.”
