MarineMax plans move to larger Florida location

MarineMax is expanding its headquarters and moving it to a larger location in Clearwater, Fla., a few miles from the current headquarters.

MarineMax spokeswoman Abbey Heimensen confirmed to Trade Only that the company is moving its team support headquarters, but clarified that the move did not amount to a new store location.

MarineMax plans to invest more than $2 million in new furniture, fixtures and office equipment while adding 30 employees during the next three years as part of the expansion, according to the Clearwater Gazette.

The company received a property tax exemption of 50 percent during the next five years to help facilitate the expansion, which would result in a savings of $18,661 between 2014 and 2018, the paper reported.

“Analysis shows that the project does provide net benefits, net positive contributions to the local economy, including a $37.5 million economic impact,” Denise Sanderson, the city’s assistant director for economic development and housing, said in her recommendation that the council approve the ordinance, according to the paper.
