Registration under way for Sail Newport youth sessionsPosted on
The non-profit sailing center at Fort Adams State Park in Rhode Island offers programs for youths age 5 and older in one- and two-week sessions.
Boats used include Optis, Bugs, Hunter 140s, Club 420s and J22s to teach beginner, intermediate, advanced and racing classes.
There is strong demand for Sail Newport’s nationally recognized program, so families are urged to register before Feb. 16, when registration closes. Afterward, enrollment probably will be handled by a random selection process, the group said.
All instructors are US Sailing-certified.
Costs vary, but payment will not be due until after Feb. 21 once a student is enrolled and a parent accepts the session. The sessions will begin June 23 and continue through Aug. 22.
Financial aid is available for eligible families.
