Show Management plans boat show in PanamaPosted on Written by Reagan Haynes
Show Management confirmed the addition of a new Panama International Boat Show set for 2014 at the Flamenco Yacht Club and Marina in Panama City.
“The new portion of the marina they’re building is for 60 yachts, so that’s the in-water portion of the show,” Show Management COO and senior vice president Dane Graziano told Trade Only Today. “There’s an unlimited amount of space upland.”
Show Management is owned by Active Interest Media, which also owns Soundings Trade Only.
The show had tentatively been scheduled for mid-August until several major European boatbuilders said they would like to make the new show their major regional South American event, Graziano said.
Italy has traditionally held August as a vacation month for centuries — to the degree that typing the words “Italy August” into Google will get the search engine’s very first autofill prompt to suggest “Italy August holiday.”
As a result, Graziano said, Show Management is confirming alternative dates with interested exhibitors and is exploring a mid-June weekend.
Ferragosto is a celebration introduced by the emperor Augustus in 18 B.C., according to Wikipedia, an addition to several other Roman festivals that already fell in August celebrating the harvest after intense labor. The Roman Catholic Church celebrates Ferragosto to commemorate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
“We’re doing our research right now to make the new dates work for everyone,” Graziano said. “We had very strong interest from our European clientele. When you have manufacturers saying they want to make this their regional show and have dealers come in from the whole area, you want to find what’s best for everyone.”
