Bayliner set to unveil new models at upcoming shows

Posted on

Bayliner Boats will debut two new models at the Feb. 13-17 Miami International Boat Show — the Element XL, the second in the Element lineup, and the 642, which the company is branding as “the big water day boat.”

Both boats also will be featured at the Detroit Boat Show, which begins Feb. 15.

Starting at $16,999, the Element XL features automotive-style handling, a standard 90-hp or upgraded 115-hp FourStroke Mercury engine and stability and safety features, Bayliner said.

At 18 feet, the Element XL has deep freeboard and Bayliner’s patent-pending M-Hull design, which has improved onboard safety, and the boat provides seating for eight, the builder said. An optional Sport configuration includes a sport arch for watersports.

“The Element XL is going to be huge in 2014 and beyond,” Bayliner Boats president Keith Yunger said in a statement. “While Bayliner is constantly striving to innovate, we are also building new expectations about the possibilities of family boating. The original Element earned countless awards — including Powerboat of the Year at the London Boat Show — for that reason, and we are confident that the larger Element XL will put smiles on the faces of new and experienced boaters all over the world.”

The company has sold more than twice as many 642s as it expected since the boat was unveiled in Europe last year, Bayliner brand manager Michael Yobe said.

A low-maintenance cuddy in the 642’s bow sleeps two, and a preferred equipment package includes a portable head in the bow and a teak table in the cockpit.

The 642 starts at $33,999. A CARB-compliant 3.0-liter MerCruiser engine with a 135-hp Alpha I sterndrive comes standard.

“The North American release of both the Element XL and the 642 has been momentous this year-not just for those of us of the Bayliner family, but for the boating industry as a whole. These models represent a movement toward more affordable, safer and better family boating,” Yunger said. “We’re thrilled to welcome so many to boating and the Bayliner community with these two exceptional models.”

Go Bayliner! There isn’t any other manufacturer who comes close to putting so many folks on the water as they have by offering an affordable and value-laden product. For five years I owned my Bayliner 2858. It got my family on the water for much less than other boats, it held up and had very few maintenance issues.
