Georgia boater convicted in death of R&B singer’s stepsonPosted on
A Georgia man was found guilty of homicide by vessel in the death of R&B singer Usher’s stepson.
Kile Glover, 11, and a 15-year-old girl were being pulled on a tube by a pontoon boat on Atlanta-area Lake Lanier when a personal watercraft hit them in July 2012, according to CNN.
Jeffrey Simon Hubbard, a family friend who was part of the group outing, was operating the PWC.
A Hall County, Georgia, jury Thursday found Hubbard guilty on five counts, including homicide by vessel in the first degree, serious injury by vessel, reckless operation of a vessel, unlawful operation of a personal watercraft and a boat traffic violation. Sentencing is set for next month.
The boy’s mother, Tameka Raymond, was married to Usher for two years. They have two children together from their marriage. They divorced in 2009. His father is Ryan Glover, president of Bounce TV, and a former executive at Turner Broadcasting, the parent company of CNN.
Alcohol apparently was not a factor in the accident, the state Department of Natural Resources told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
There was no word on whether the towers were using spotters, which is required in most states.
