MIAMI — Bentley Collins, vice president of marketing and sales for Maine-based Sabre Yachts, began his press conference on Friday by introducing the redesigned Sabre 54 Salon Express and the brand-new Back Cove 41 with a joke about the miserable winter the northern United States has endured.
“I’d like to thank you all for coming here today,” Collins said under warm sunshine Friday at the Yacht & Brokerage Show in Miami Beach, “to what we in Maine call a really, really, really good day.”
In introducing the Sabre 54 “with a completely refreshed interior and a Volvo Penta IPS 950 pod system” and the Back Cove 41, Collins said Sabre’s commitment to continually introduce new or refreshed product during the recession years has been integral to the semicustom builder’s ability to grow in a down market.
“At the end of the day, the big question was how long was the recession going to last,” Collins said after addressing the press gathering. “I think companies that kept their foot on the brake for those four or five down years emerged to find their whole line was now stale.”
The company has seven boats on display at the show — three Sabres and four Back Coves — and “every boat is either a new or refreshed model, post-recession,” Collins said.
