VIDEO: Fire damages boats in Washington marinaPosted on
A fast-moving fire Friday at a marina in northeast Washington destroyed seven boats and damaged at least eight others.
Four of the six boats that sank in the fire at Shelter Bay Marina near La Conner, Wash., were raised Monday, according to The Seattle Times.
The Swinomish Police Department, Skagit County Fire Department, Coast Guard and insurance companies will try to determine the fire’s cause and the total damage, which has been estimated at $1 million.
Six of the destroyed boats burned to the waterline and sank. The state Department of Ecology told the Times that it expects the last two boats to be raised today or Wednesday.
Once they are removed, environmental workers will continue to clean the wooden dock and nearby vegetation, as well as remove remaining debris from the water.
The recovered vessels are being barged to a shipyard.
All recoverable oil has been contained, the department said. More than 2,400 gallons of oil and fuel leaked into the harbor, with even more on board the sunken vessels. No effects on wildlife have been reported.
