Volvo Penta debuts oil-analysis programPosted on
Volvo Penta of the Americas is offering customers an oil analysis program designed to make it easy to obtain expert diagnostics on engine oil. The program is available for all Volvo Penta diesel and gas engines.
Engine oil analysis provides a basic driveline “health check” for an engine, yielding information about what’s going on inside. With this information, Volvo said, owners can plan maintenance more effectively and reduce the risk of unplanned downtime and repair expenses.
The process is fast and easy, the company said. Consumers must contact their local Volvo Penta authorized service dealer to purchase an oil analysis kit for $50. Once an oil sample is collected, the dealer will send it off for analysis.
The lab will send back a complete report by email within 24 to 48 hours, with recommendations for actions to maximize engine performance, according to the company.
Volvo maintains a website containing a history of all oil analysis reports for each engine, making it possible to track the wear of the engine over its lifetime.
“The exclusive Volvo Penta Oil Analysis Program takes advantage of the unique knowledge and expertise available in our two accredited and ISO-certified laboratories in North Carolina and Ontario,” Volvo Penta vice president of aftermarket and customer support Ed Monacchio said in a statement. “Our lab technicians are very familiar with the acceptable levels of additives and elements found in engine oil for Volvo Penta products. With oil analysis data, they can draw on their experience to gain visibility into what’s happening to the internal parts of the engine.”
Volvo recommends performing oil analysis at regular intervals to optimize engine performance and catch small problems before they become big ones.
