Freeport Marine Supply celebrates 75 yearsPosted on
Freeport Marine Supply, a family-owned company that specializes in boating equipment and supplies, will commemorate its 75th anniversary at noon on April 5, along with representatives of the village of Freeport in the town of Hempstead and Nassau County.
The Freeport Chamber of Commerce will perform an official ceremony and the Coast Guard Auxiliary will answer customer questions and offer advice about vessel safety and equipment requirements.
Special discounts will be offered, along with customer raffles and manufacturers’ rebates. Refreshments and hot dogs will be served.
“We’re excited to be celebrating our 75th anniversary with those who have made it possible, our customers, many of whom first shopped at Freeport Marine Supply with their grandparents,” said Justin Ross, the third-generation owner/operator.
The village of Freeport will issue a novelty check refunding the original $25 deposit, plus interest, that was required to establish electric service in 1939. Nassau County and Hempstead will present citations commemorating the milestone.
The company, a member of the New York Marine Trades Association and the National Marine Distributors Association, was founded in 1939 by Arthur Ross. It has been at its current location since 1956.
