Boat sinking in Indonesia claims seven lives

Posted on

Seven people died, including three children, when a boat carrying dozens of Christian worshippers celebrating Easter sank today off eastern Indonesia.

The worshipers were holding a traditional sea ritual in the waters of Flores Island when one of the wooden boats sank before noon, district police chief Dewa Putu Gede Artha told the Bangkok Post.

He said 53 people were rescued.

Rescuers were still searching for possible survivors, the police chief said, and were trying to determine how many people were on the vessel.

Four other people were known to be missing.
