Florida adds sales-tax exemption on manufacturing equipmentPosted on
A sales-tax exemption on purchases of manufacturing equipment in Florida will become available, effective today, for eligible manufacturers.
Qualifying purchases made after the effective date of the exemption are eligible for a refund of any tax paid.
An eligible business is one whose primary activity occurs at the location that holds the machinery, according to the state Department of Revenue.
The National Marine Manufacturers Association said it worked closely with Gov. Rick Scott last year to support the tax break, which would extend to boat manufacturers.
The NMMA said Scott made the tax change a top priority after recognizing that Florida was the only state on the Gulf Coast or Atlantic Seaboard that charged sales tax on major manufacturing equipment purchases.
