Mississippi show opens Thursday

The Gulfcoast Yacht and Brokerage Show, which began in 2010 and outgrew its Orange Beach, Ala., venue, will take place Thursday through Sunday in Gulfport, Miss.

Organizers said the decision to move the show to Gulfport was made after searching the entire upper Gulf Coast for a location not only as an immediate solution, but a long-term one, as well. Now a partner with the city of Gulfport, the show thrives today, reaching thousands of boating enthusiasts nationwide.

By last fall, more than 150 vendor booths had been sold, and the event was expected to bring more than 800 boats and more than $100 million of inventory, organizers said.

The 2014 Gulfcoast Yacht and Boat Show will feature a live sea lion show, a live shark encounter and a great white shark exhibit.

Hands-on seminars for powerboats and sailing vessels will be held by Discover Boating and Discover Sailing. Cruising seminars by Capts. Chris and Alyse Caldwell will give attendees the ins and outs of cruising the most popular waters and destinations. Vehicle displays will show off some of the most expensive cars, SUVs and motorcycles available today.

There will be daily demonstrations by Power Up Watersports featuring the Fly Boy Jet Boots, and demo rides provided by Yamaha.

The show will launch Thursday with a VIP red carpet preview day that includes a wine-tasting tour.
