NMMA Canada awarded government grant

Posted on

The National Marine Manufacturers Association in Canada was chosen to receive $58,650 in funding from the Canadian government to help industry members expand and succeed abroad.

The funding stems from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development’s Global Opportunities for Associations program, which supports national associations and will allow Canadian marine manufacturers an opportunity to explore new and emerging markets through trade show missions.

In 2013, together with Canadian marine manufacturers, the government funding allowed NMMA Canada to take a trade mission abroad to both the Eurasia Boat Show and the Dubai International Boat Show to establish distributor opportunities in growing marine markets.

In May, the new funding is allowing NMMA Canada to assemble a trade mission for Canadian marine businesses to attend the May 22-25 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

With more than 300 exhibitors and 38,000 visitors, the Sanctuary Cove show is considered a go-to event in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Global Opportunities for Associations program provides matching funds of as much as 50 percent of eligible expenses for companies that attend and exhibit at the show. The cost of exhibiting is $950 for a booth that is 3 meters by 3 meters (after funding dollars have been applied).

The Global Opportunities for Associations program also will support companies by covering 50 percent of their travel costs to and from the show.
