Canadian marine industry preps for legislative meetingsPosted on
Advocates for the Canadian recreational boating industry are joining the National Marine Manufacturers Association Canada to meet with government officials on Parliament Hill in Ottawa today in the Canadian version of the American Boating Congress, which was held last week.
Today marks the third annual Recreational Boating Day on the Hill, which enables advocates to speak on behalf of the 67,000 Canadian marine industry workers and 4,400 companies that provide goods and services to boaters.
Industry participants attending the Day on the Hill include representatives of Boating Ontario, Boating BC, Honda Canada, Princecraft Boats, Mustang Survival, Connor Industries/Stanley Boats, Power Boating Canada, Scepter Corp., BRP, Brunswick Corp., BoatSmart! Canada, Mercury Marine Ltd., Yamaha Motor Canada, HD Brown/Sidewind Marine, Suzuki Canada and Starcraft & Smokercraft Canada.
“The recreational boating industry generates approximately $8.9 billion in revenues and $5 billion in GDP and we want to ensure that number continues to grow,” NMMA Canada executive director/vice president for government relations Sara Anghel said in a statement. “We’re on Parliament Hill this week to educate our policy-makers on the significant impact of recreational boating on Canada’s economy and to find ways to work together with the federal government to expand this positive economic impact.”
With the start to boating season coming at the end of May, the Recreational Boating Day on the Hill provides members of the Canadian industry with a platform to meet with a range of Parliamentarians and government officials to engage on policy issues of importance and relevance to Canada’s recreational boating sector.
While they meet with policymakers, conferees also will address issues that include Parks Canada waterways hours of operation, cross-border pricing issues and international trade barriers.
