Mariners General Insurance Group adds regional managerPosted on
Mariners General Insurance Group said it added Richard Mallard, a 34-year veteran of the marine and aviation industries, as its new Florida regional manager.
The Newport Beach, Calif.-based marine insurer said Mallard will assume all operations of the company’s regional office in Bradenton, Fla.
“Rick is a skilled professional with a proven track record for managing successful businesses and the strong relationships on which thriving business are based,” Mariners General founder and president Byron Chamberlain said in a statement.
Mallard’s hire in the Southeast follows the addition earlier this year of San Francisco-area industry leader Carolyn Pounds, who oversees Mariners General’s new regional services in the Bay Area.
The company was founded in 1959 and initially served clients from its longstanding Newport Beach location and its second California office in San Diego. Today, Mariners continues to expand its operations around the country — organically and from acquiring companies with strong books of business in existing areas, as well as regions not currently served, including the Mid-Atlantic and Pacific Northwest, which reflect late-2014 expansion targets.
The company said Mallard, a native Floridian, is an avid and lifelong recreational boater and career insurance professional. He previously managed his own insurance agency with a multimillion-dollar book of business.
He has significant experience in the aviation industry, has a strong navigational background and has always remained well-connected to the Florida boating community, the company said.
