NMMA seeks U.S. exhibitors for Barcelona showPosted on
The National Marine Manufacturers Association is asking U.S. marine companies to participate in October in a new USA Pavilion at the boat show in Barcelona.
The 53rd Salon Nautico Internacional de Barcelona takes place Oct. 15-19 at Port Vell. Last year’s five-day show attracted more than 52,000 visitors — 66 percent general public and 33 percent professional.
Spain remains the No. 3 country for exports from the United States to the European Union. Exports to Spain total $44 million, and although U.S. exports are below prerecession levels, 2013 recorded the largest growth since the recession hit.
The NMMA, together with strategic partners at the U.S. Commercial Service in Madrid, believes the Spanish market is poised for modest growth.
Spain’s 7,000 miles of coastline and warm climate, combined with plentiful mooring and marina infrastructure and tourism trade, make the country a strong boating market.
Recent legislative changes have helped to alleviate some of the tax burdens historically imposed upon boat ownership for any vessel longer than 26 feet.
The European Commission has forecasted that Spain’s economy will show modest growth in 2014 and the country’s recreational boating industry is showing some gains.
U.S. exports of boats and marine engines increased more than 50 percent from the year prior and are showing stronger signs of recovery than U.S. exports to some other European markets, including Italy.
