Sideshift adds wireless controls for thrustersPosted on Written by Theresa Nicholson
Canadian-based Sideshift said its bow and stern thrusters now come standard with wireless joystick controls.
The switch to externally mounted, joystick-controlled thrusters shortens installation time by several hours, reduces through-hull drilling and eliminates long electrical wire runs. The wireless package costs the same as a traditional thruster.
Sideshift president Mark Houle told Trade Only Today that Sideshift’s market is mainly do-it-yourself boaters and the wireless controls make installation that much easier.
“Our clients are boaters who like to do the job themselves,” Houle said. “The hardest part of installation is running the wires, so if we eliminate the wires the job is even easier. The easier a product is to use, the more we sell.”
The Sideshift range of bow and stern thrusters accommodates boats as large as 50 feet. The wireless joystick control offers plug and play for the helm-to-motor controller connection. This technology also works with Sideshift’s dual joystick controller for those who use bow and stern thrusters.
Owners who wish to transfer their older Sideshift model to a new vessel can purchase a wireless receiver/transmitter upgrade kit for $395. The new Sideshift packages come with bow or stern thruster, motor controller, wireless transmitter and receiver, a single joystick and hardware. Prices start at $3,495.
