The WoodenBoat Show opens today in ConnecticutPosted on
The WoodenBoat Show, produced and designed by WoodenBoat magazine, returns to Mystic, Conn., this weekend.
More than 100 classic and contemporary boats will be featured at the show, which starts today and continues through Sunday. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
Organizers said this year’s event will celebrate three of Nathanael Herreshoff’s most beloved designs: the 12-1/2, the Newport 29 and the Buzzards Bay 25. All three were originally conceived in 1914 and turn 100 this year.
The show offers something for all wooden-boat enthusiasts and marine history buffs, organizers said. Boats of all type — large and small, old and new, power, sail, oar and paddle — will be on display, including cruising yachts, launches, runabouts, fishing boats, performance powerboats, daysailers, dinghies, rowboats, canoes, performance shells, multihulls and racing boats.
Visitors will be able to learn new skills at demonstrations and workshops. Organizers said this year’s theme is “tools of the trade,” and the skills demonstrations on each of the three days will include “something old, something new.” All of the presenters are professional boatbuilders, and there will be five demonstrations daily.
More than 100 vendors will offer items for sale, including maritime art, antiques, tools, books and nautical gear.
