Hydra-Sports opens factory-direct center in New Jersey

Posted on

Less than two years after announcing it would go completely factory-direct from a Florida facility, HydraSports Custom announced a new factory-direct center in Brick, N.J.

Comstock Marina will serve the territory from Virginia to Maine for new-boat sales and service.

“We selected Comstock Marina and Yacht Sales because they are as enthusiastic about the boating lifestyle and providing excellent customer service as I am,” HydraSports Custom CEO Elias De La Torre III said in a statement.

He also said that since he acquired the brand in 2012 he has received an outpouring of demand for the new boats, but finding the right fit for the brand’s growth was paramount.

Some dealers were surprised in the fall of 2012 when HydraSports announced its intention to go factory-direct.

The company announced in late September that year that Florida-based Plantation Boat Mart & Marina had bought a majority interest in the brand from MasterCraft Boat Co. The deal was completed earlier, but the announcement was delayed to allow for a buildup of inventory. Three months into the endeavor, the company told Trade Only that it sold more boats than it initially projected.

The company had been bought by MasterCraft in 2010 and has continued to build the boats in Vonore, Tenn.
