Wisconsin honors Mercury Marine anniversary

Posted on

Wisconsin Workforce Development Secretary Reggie Newson presented Mercury Marine with a proclamation signed by Gov. Scott Walker declaring Monday Mercury Marine Day in the state.

The company received the honor in celebration of its 75th anniversary and commitment to apprenticeship training. During the past two years Mercury has more than doubled the number of apprentices in its work force. The company now has 27 working at its world headquarters in Fond du Lac.

“It takes dedicated and talented men and women with the right skills to achieve this level of success, and we are proud to have Mercury Marine as such a strong, long-standing partner in apprenticeship training,” Newson said in a statement.

“We are building a skilled work force to move Wisconsin forward through proven programs like apprenticeship, as well as new initiatives, such as the Governor’s Wisconsin Fast Forward worker training grant program.”

Mercury president John Pfeifer said the proclamation was “an honor and we share the success with everyone who is part of the Mercury Marine family.”
