Rec Boat Holdings set to unveil 2015 lineup at dealer meeting

Posted on Written by Richard Armstrong

Less than two months after the Beneteau Group acquired it, Rec Boat Holdings will hold a dealer meeting to unveil its 2015 model-year lineup near its manufacturing plant in Cadillac, Mich.

“We will focus on new models, new product enhancements as the core message,” marketing director Julie Johnson told Trade Only Today in an email. “We will have [Rec Boat Holdings president Roch Lambert] on hand to speak to the new ownership and what it means for our networks and ultimately our consumers.”

Lambert also will discuss the company’s structure moving forward, new product development and investments, Johnson said.

All of Rec Boat Holdings’ brands will be represented for on-the-water testing — Four Winns, Glastron, Wellcraft and Scarab — as well as boats from the new sister brands, outboard-powered Jeanneau and Beneteau models.

The event is scheduled for Aug. 13-14 at McGuire’s Resort near Lake Cadillac.

In late June, the Beneteau Group acquired the U.S. manufacturer.

“If you consider the cost of acquisition and if you consider the investment to bring new products into the factory in Michigan and the tooling and molds that make the Beneteau and Jeanneau boats, all in the next four or five years, the total costs of investments should be less than $100 million,” CFO Patrick Guilloux told Trade Only Today at the time.

Beneteau has made a concerted effort during the past several years to grow its powerboat market in North America. The Rec Boat Holdings acquisition gives the French manufacturing group a foothold in the smaller-powerboat market.

Rec Boat Holdings’ four brands were purchased by Platinum Equity after Genmar went bankrupt in 2010.

As a partner of two Freedom Boat Club locations in New England, I would be thrilled to see them unveil a boat similar in style to the Beneteau Flyer offered by one of these other brands (Wellcraft, Glastron, or Four Winns). We could greatly use a nice, 24-28 foot cabin boat with outboard power like the Flyer at a slightly lower price point. There are used Flyers around but they all seem to be in Europe.
