Attendance up at first weekend of Houston show

The 62nd annual Houston International Boat, Sport & Travel Show began its first full week at Houston’s NRG Center with attendance up 21 percent from last year at this time.

For the second year in a row the show suspended operations on its first Saturday, one day after it opened, because of a Houston Texans NFL playoff game.

Show president Ken Lovell said the crowds have encouraged dealers and exhibitors.

“In our first two days this year, on both Friday and Sunday, boat dealers and exhibitors are telling me their sales numbers are very strong, with a sizable increase over last year,” Lovell said in a statement.

“It’s always promising to see this so early in the year, and we believe this indicates a good 2017 for the recreational boating industry in the Houston area and nationwide.”

The show opened last Friday and will continue through Sunday.
