New England show opens Saturday in Boston

The Progressive New England Boat Show is coming to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center from Saturday through Feb. 19 with more than 600 boats, marine gear and demonstrations.

New this year is a lineup of seminars and workshops for the serious fisherman, or anyone who wants to get started in angling. A large fish tank will be on hand for the first time for live demonstrations, with help from the Goose Hummock Shop in Orleans, Mass.

Its local experts will offer hands-on seminars, including Techniques for Catching Stripers, Family Friendly Saltwater Fishing and Fishing Nantucket Sound, show organizers said.

With Plexiglas side panels, visitors will get an underwater view to help make their lures irresistible. The tank also will host kayak demos, including the latest model from Old Town Canoes and Kayaks — the Predator PDL — a fishing machine with an all-new pedal drive.

Visitors who wear New England Patriots gear to the show’s opening day — in honor of the Patriots’ victory in Super Bowl LI — will win one $20 gift card to Coppersmith, a nearby restaurant serving globally influenced comfort food in South Boston. (The offer is valid while supplies last.)

“With more than 42,000 people coming to the show each year, many of our attendees are both boaters and Patriots fans, so what better place to celebrate a Super Bowl win, escape the snow and start dreaming of summer days on the water,” Progressive Insurance New England Boat Show manager Bob McAlpine said in a statement.

“We hope fans who come wearing their Patriots gear on opening day get to end their boat show visit with a warm meal at Coppersmith, one of our favorite neighboring restaurants near the convention center.”
