Providence show schedules workforce seminarPosted on
The Providence Boat Show, which opens Friday at the Rhode Island Convention Center and runs through Sunday, will hold a special breakfast seminar focused on workforce challenges and solutions.
Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo will be a featured speaker at the breakfast, which is slated for Friday morning.
Also speaking will be Brandon Kidd, president of the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association; Marine Retailers Association of the Americas president Matt Gruhn; and Scott Jensen, director of the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training.
The breakfast includes a panel discussion with Gruhn and Jensen, moderated by RIMTA CEO Wendie Mackie, that will focus on workforce challenges and solutions that have garnered results in Rhode Island.
RIMTA has partnered with Real Jobs Rhode Island to create a series of short-term training programs customized for the state’s marine trades.
Gruhn also will present findings from a recent Marine Industry Workforce Assessment Survey.
Brooks Marine Group president Neal Harrell will present the John H. Chafee Boater of the Year Award to Kate Wilson for her work in getting more Newport-area youths engaged in sailing.
