Coast Guard Foundation seeks scholarship applicationsPosted on
The Coast Guard Foundation said it opened its 2017 scholarship season.
Children of enlisted Coast Guard members can apply for annual scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Applications will be accepted through April 15.
Scholarships are available to children of enlisted Coast Guard members who are active duty, active duty reserve and retired.
First-time scholarship applicants are asked to use the online application hosted by Coast Guard Work-Life.
The foundation is offering a simplified application process for recipients who are applying to renew their scholarship. This application is only for students who have already received a one-time scholarship and are working on their first undergraduate degree. Once completed, the application and an unofficial transcript can be submitted directly to the foundation’s office for review.
In the last 26 years the foundation has awarded more than $3.8 million to more than 630 college-aged young adults through its scholarship program. The nonprofit said its commitment to education support has significantly grown over time and is now a primary focus.
“We strive to serve the Coast Guard community, and our scholarships are the very core of our support to those who sacrifice so much,” Coast Guard Foundation president Susan Ludwig said in a statement.
“It’s rewarding to see what these young men and women have done to give back to their community, and for those we have already helped, we are so proud of who they have become. We were honored to be able to award a record of 128 scholarships last year and look forward to continuing to expand the program again this year.”
