Northeast Ohio show opens today

The new Akron Boat & Water Sports Show will drop anchor today in the John S. Knight Center.

The show opens at noon and will continue through Sunday.

Organizers said northeast Ohio is rich in lakes and rivers, so the show will feature a wide variety of boats for popular activities such as water skiing, wakeboarding and wake surfing.

The show also will have conventional family runabouts, fishing models, including a large selection of bass boats, and pontoon boats, which organizers said are very popular in the market.

“What makes this show different and attractive to this area of Ohio is that we’re featuring boats well suited to the inland waterways instead of Lake Erie, which is more the focus of our big January show in Cleveland,” show manager Bryan Ralston said in a statement. “We also like introducing this show in March because the boating season in this area is just around the corner now.”

Organizers said visitors will find a beach party atmosphere on the show floor, augmented with music from steel drum bands and special foods and beverages.

“It’s time to leave winter thoughts in our wake and party like it’s summer,” Ralston said. “Boating is fun, and that’s what we want this new boat show to be for the exhibitors and the visitors.”

The Cleveland-based Lake Erie Marine Trades Association is producing the show.
