Viking Yachts names new communications directorPosted on
Soundings Trade Only executive editor Chris Landry will be leaving Active Interest Media to take a position at Viking Yachts as communications director.
Landry will be responsible for the distribution of all communications, including press releases, daily web content, the Viking magazine Valhalla, and advertisements and promotional materials. He’ll work with media in both editorial and advertorial capacities.
“It’s an exciting time at Viking, and I am honored to represent such a prestigious boatbuilder and successful company,” said Landry, 48, who was also executive editor of Soundings and a staff editor and writer for AIM’s Anglers Journal. “I look forward to telling the Viking story for a long time to come.”
Landry takes over for Peter Frederiksen, who held the position for 17 years and is widely known and respected in the marine industry.
“Working at Viking has been one of the best parts of my life,” said Frederiksen, who was hired by Viking president Patrick Healey in 2000 after leaving his editor’s chair at Yachting magazine. “Viking has been like a family to me. Pat Healey has been like a brother.”
Landry said he looks forward to working with the talented employees at Viking who currently build sportfish and motoryachts from 37 to 93 feet in New Gretna and Mullica, N.J.
Landry, who will head the communications department, also said he wants to help draw in the next generation of Viking owners through a variety of outlets.
Landry joined Trade Only in 2007, working first as a senior writer before becoming an editor in 2012. He grew up boating and fishing in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, and has more than 20 years of experience as a marine media professional, including an 8-year stint as editor of Powerboat Reports.
He began his marine journalism career at Soundings in 1995 after four years as a newspaper reporter.
