The Orlando Watersports Complex hosted a Zumbathon fundraiser on May 20 to benefit Alan Vasquez, who is battling a rare brain tumor.

Son of Nautique Boat Co. employee Midy Vasquez, 8-year-old Alan was diagnosed with a brain tumor called DIPG, a highly aggressive and difficult-to-treat tumor found at the base of the brain.

Because this type of tumor has limited treatment options, doctors project a zero percent survival rate. About three weeks after his diagnosis, Alan’s family made the decision to seek alternative treatment in Mexico.

Thanks to this treatment, which includes intra-arterial chemotherapy, recent MRIs have shown a 50 percent reduction in tumor size. Treatment and travel to Mexico are not covered by insurance and are very costly.

More than 50 people participated in the Zumbathon event, raising about $1,500 for the Vasquez family. The event consisted of a 90-minute Zumba class and a raffle with items donated by Wyndham Resorts, Nautique Boat Co. and Aktion Parks.

“Our team, while sorry about the challenges faced by the Vasquez family, is happy to help them during this difficult time,” Correct Craft CEO Bill Yeargin said in a statement.

Correct Craft owns Aktion Parks.

“It is an incredible blessing to be part of a caring team of people who want to help others,” Yeargin added.
