Garmin unveils new marine smartwatchPosted on
Garmin International today announced the Quatix 5, its next-generation marine GPS smartwatch, which the company said is designed for life on the water.
Designed from Garmin’s Fenix 5 platform, the Quatix 5 is a dedicated marine GPS smartwatch that provides comprehensive boat connectivity with compatible Garmin chartplotters and other marine electronics.
Features include autopilot control, remote multifunction display, waypoint marking, data streaming — including speed, depth, temperature and wind — and sailracing assistance.
In addition to preloaded marine-specific feature sets, the Quatix 5 also includes built-in activity profiles for land and water sports such as running, hiking, biking, swimming, rowing, and paddle boarding.
With an extended battery life, daily activity tracking, smart notifications and Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate technology, Garmin said the Quatix 5 can be worn all the time and is built to withstand marine environments.
It measures at 47 mm and features a stainless steel bezel, buttons and rear case that the company said is more compact than previous models.
New QuickFit bands are available in metal, leather or silicone, so users can interchange their watchband without tools.
“From fishermen chasing billfish or bass to canoeists, kayakers and big sail and power boaters, the quatix 5 was designed for life on the water,” Garmin global consumer sales vice president Dan Bartel said in a statement.
“It combines feature and design qualities from our popular Fenix 5 multisport watch series with boating, fishing, cruising and sailing capabilities to deliver the most sophisticated and connected general-purpose marine smartwatch on the market today.”
