Triple Evinrude E-TEC G2 300 outboards had the torque to break numerous pending show-skiing records at Chain of Records 2017 in Florida.

Evinrude parent company BRP said that more than a year of planning for Chain of Records 2017 resulted in more than 36 pending world and national water-skiing records being broken at the April event on multiple lakes in Polk County, Florida.

BRP, which sponsored the April 18-23 event, said the records included the most records broken at a single event. All of the records are pending until they are certified by the National Show Ski Association and by the Guinness World Records.

“There are few locations that meet the requirements of size, water depth and conditions for these large records, and few groups have access to the resources needed,” Chain of Records acts and records captain Eric Gran said in a statement. “One of the most important factors is boat power. Depending on the record, triple 300s or larger are really needed and I only know of three of those boats in existence.”

“From everyone involved there were lots of comments about the differences in pulls between the two triple rigs, with the Evinrude E-TEC G2s receiving glowing praise,” said Jason Hook, tow-boat captain, Chain of Records. “All in all, it was a very positive showing for the triple 300 E-TEC G2s.”

Evinrude director of global marketing and strategic planning Olivier Pierini said the record attempts required a great deal of pulling power.

“We are very excited that our Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines not only deliver for the average boater, but excel in these extreme situations. Offering up to 30 percent more torque than leading comparable four-stroke outboard engines as well as up to 15 percent better fuel efficiency and up to 75 percent fewer total regulated emissions, the Evinrude E-TEC G2 engines offer truly offer record-breaking performance,” Pierini said.

Ernst, for traditional three-event water ski competition you’re right. However, outboards are the power of choice for most professional show skiers due to their high torque and ability to use twin, or even triple rigs giving much more pulling power than one single propeller on an inboard.
