The America’s Cup named diesel-engine manufacturer Yanmar Co. Ltd. as the official marine engines partner for the 35th Cup.

The world’s oldest sailboat race will take place in Bermuda from today through June 25. The VIP shuttle boat that takes guests to the racecourse area to watch the competition will use Yanmar marine diesel engines.

“Through our partnership with Yanmar we can deliver a VIP experience for our guests,” America’s Cup Event Authority CEO Russell Coutts said in a statement. “We need reliability, performance and an environmentally sound power source, and Yanmar delivers on all counts.”

“For many years, Yanmar’s marine engines have been much loved by pleasure boat enthusiasts all over the world,” Yanmar president Takehito Yamaoka said. “As a manufacturer of performance marine engines it gives us great pride that we have been selected for our engines’ power, environmental performance and extreme reliability to become the official marine engines partner for the 35th America’s Cup. Being able to support the VIP program at the America’s Cup is a great honor for us, and we look forward to the upcoming events.”

The America’s Cup opens today in Bermuda with the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Qualifiers. That competition will determine the team that will challenge defending champion Oracle Team USA, starting June 17.
