Product demonstrations, as shown at last year’s ICAST, are a big draw for the annual fishing convention.

The International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades, better known as ICAST, will be held July 11-14 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., and conferees have until June 9 to reserve hotel rooms at pre-registration rates.

One of the marine industry’s fastest-growing shows, last year’s ICAST drew a record number of people — 15,000 — and exhibitors reported robust sales during the four-day show.

The American Sportfishing Association, which produces the show, was hoping for 14,000 in 2016, but exceeded that mark by 1,000. The previous year, the event drew 1,250.

Organizers have released details of the seminar lineup, tapping Jay Baer as keynote speaker at the industry breakfast. Baer, president of Convince & Convert, also will conduct a seminar titled “Hug Your Haters,” which is also the title of his book.

Presented by the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, the seminar will reveal new proprietary research into the science of complaints. Baer will address why and where customers complain and how to turn customer service into a marketing advantage.

The event will offer a full lineup of business development seminars.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association will again offer members an opportunity to exhibit in the Marine Accessories Pavilion.
