Boat sales show small gains in May

The spring began with much promise in the recreational boat industry — 20 percent sales gains in March — but apart from a few reliable growth engines, overall sales in May weren’t much stronger than they had been during a weak April.

The carbon monoxide poisoning death of a 7-year-old girl last October led to the passage of a law that will require CO detectors on some boats in Minnesota.

At the funeral last October for 7-year-old Sophia Baechler, who died of carbon monoxide poisoning aboard the family’s boat, the girl’s parents asked Minnesota state Sen. Melisa Franzen to do something to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Boat sales show double-digit gains in 1Q

Boosted by the strongest March results since 2008, the recreational boating industry posted double-digit first-quarter sales gains, including two segments that sold nearly 10,000 boats.

March boat sales best since 2008

Buoyed by successful winter shows and good early spring weather, the recreational boating industry had its best March in eight years, as sales soared 21.3 percent in the main segments and 19.9 percent industrywide.

Miami shows fuel February rebound

After a disappointing start to the year, recreational boat sales rebounded in February with strong single-digit gains that suggest the big Miami boat shows and smaller regional events attracted a significant number of buyers.
