South Carolina holding summer boat conference

The South Carolina Marine Association will hold its Summer Marine Education Conference Aug. 14-15 at the Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort at Pawleys Island, S.C. 

 

The South Carolina Marine Association will hold its Summer Marine Education Conference Aug. 14-15 at the Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort at Pawleys Island, S.C.


 


The conference will open with a State of the Boating Industry presentation by Thom Dammrich, president of the National Marine Manufacturers Association. That will be followed by a session on “Helping Boating Businesses Help Themselves,” by Wendy Larimer, legislative coordinator for the Association of Marina Industries.


 


Others invited to give presentations that day include state representative Mike Pitts, who will discuss the benefits of linking with other organizations, such as National Sportsman Foundations; a representative from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control will talk about the future of state regulations related to boating; and Glenn Hardee from the Horry County Auditor’s Office will address partnerships between marine groups and county agencies.


 


The second day of the conference will feature Phil Keeter, president of the Marine Retailers Association of America, who will discuss how to keep customers happy during hard times, while Steven Kitchin, chairman of the Marine Industry Technical Education Council, will look at the future of the workforce.


 


Other invited presenters include U.S. Rep. Henry E. Brown Jr., R-S.C., a representative from the Yacht Brokers Association of America and Skip Burdon, president of the American Boat & Yacht Council.
