Mass. shipyards merge, expand servicesPosted on
Fairhaven Shipyard & Marina purchased D.N. Kelley & Son Inc., of Fairhaven, Mass., on July 31.
The purchase consolidates the services of two long-established marine facilities on the Fairhaven waterfront under the same management structure and forms a new company called Fairhaven Shipyard Companies.
The operations will be known as the North Yard and South Yard of Fairhaven Shipyard Companies Inc.
The two firms have a combined workforce of 100 employees, and the enlarged shipyard covers 12-plus acres.
Since 1879, Fairhaven Shipyard & Marina has provided repair and maintenance for yachts and commercial vessels, from New Bedford’s whaling ships to sophisticated, high-tech megayachts. The family-owned D.N. Kelley & Son has offered a broad range of shipyard services to private and commercial vessels since 1864.
Tiara unveils CPO program
Tiara Yachts launched its certified pre-owned program in September, believed to be one of the first offerings by a yacht manufacturer.
“We are extremely excited about the launch of CPO, and we expect an immediate, positive impact on resale values for eligible product,” says Nick Bischoff, vice president of sales and marketing at Tiara Yachts.
The CPO program has been in development for the last two years. Many aspects of it were modeled after similar programs for premium luxury brands including BMW, Mercedes and Lexus.
“We worked in conjunction with our dealer partners to develop a 214-point comprehensive inspection process backed by an exclusive, 12-month limited warranty with the main objective of creating peace of mind for our valued pre-owned customers,” says Kris Hunter, Tiara’s manager of dealer development.
Tiara Yachts’ Marine Industry Certified and Platinum Customer Service rated dealers will be exclusive agents for this program.
Holland, Mich.-based Tiara Yachts is a subsidiary of S2 Yachts.
