Fin Cutter System

Posted on Written by Chris Landry

74_fincutter_01An antifouling device for waterjet propulsion systems has been introduced. The Fin Cutter System consists of two cutters — one inside the waterjet and one outside.

The latter is a hydraulically operated blade, incorporated into an intake screen, that cuts seaweed, eelgrass or other debris that collects on the screen. The passive, inside cutter is bolted through the impeller housing. This “fin” keeps the impeller free of any debris that the blade cutter has shredded. The system has little or no effect on water flow or performance. Pricing ranges from $10,000 to $12,000, depending on the application.
