Un-HesivePosted on Written by Chris Landry
Removing cured urethane from composite material with a screwdriver or putty knife often results in damaged material.
North Star Products Inc., of Delray Beach, Fla., designed its new Un-Hesive specifically to remove bonding substances such as 3M 5200 and Sika Sikaflex without hurting the material or breaking down the adhesive, says Craig Travis, vice president of sales and marketing for North Star. Un-Hesive, which is a liquid, is pumped from a spray bottle and allowed to soak in for 20 minutes at a temperature higher than 73 F. The cured sealant can then be peeled off with your fingers, says Travis. Removing adhesive from trim tabs bonded to a transom will likely be a common use, he says. Un-Hesive is available for $14.95 in an 8-ounce spray bottle. It’s also sold in 1- and 5-gallon sizes for $49.95 and $199.95, respectively. A 55-gallon drum will be offered, but pricing had not been set yet. Contact: North Star Products Inc., (888) 846-8633. www.un-hesive.com
