Wind-powered vent

Posted on Written by Chris Landry

88_windvent_02Maximum ventilation during off-season layup is important to prevent mold and mildew, especially if a boat is shrink-wrapped.

Shrink-wrap supplier Dr. Shrink’s DS-683WP wind-powered vent increases air circulation under the cover, can run 24 hours a day in any climate, and keeps working as long as there’s wind, according to the company, moving 30 cubic feet of air per hour with a 10-mph breeze. The maintenance-free vent, which consists of efficient blades and anemometer cups, can either deliver air or remove it, helping to eliminate moisture buildup and maximize air flow, according to the company. With more than 15 square inches of adhesion, the base of the vent simply sticks to the shrink-wrap surface. Dr. Shrink’s DS-683WP can be purchased with or without screens in the base. Price: $4.25.
