The Dania Beach Marine Flea Market is returning to Dania Jai Alai March 19-22, 2009, for the event’s 31st year.
After 27 years at Dania Jai Alai, the annual event moved to Dolphin Stadium in 2006 to make way for the fronton’s planned development. Jai Alai, however, has postponed the expansion, enabling the Marine Flea Market to return to Dania Beach, event founder Al Behrendt said in a statement.
The flea market is an outlet for individuals and marine-related businesses to sell used marine equipment, antiques, new and used boats, fishing tackle, diving gear, marine artwork and other boating-related items at bargain prices.
“One of the unique aspects of the Dania Marine Flea Market is the pleasant, almost party-like atmosphere that the Dania Jai Alai property brings to the event,” Behrendt said. “We are happy to be able to return to the location where the Marine Flea Market originated in 1979.”
While the flea market’s location has changed over the years, its concept remains the same — providing an outlet for vendors to sell overstocked and used marine equipment as well as “scratch-and-dent” merchandise or products that are obsolete as a result of model or design changes.
The Dania Jai Alai Fronton is located on Dania Beach Boulevard in Dania Beach. Parking is free. Gates open to the public at 9 a.m. each day and close at 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 4 p.m. Sunday. Click here for information.
