Experts speculate on cause of unexpected waves

Dock workers in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, were recently surprised by what has been called rogue waves that hit shortly before low tide.

In 15 minutes, the water rose 12 feet before receding. It occurred three times, according to a report in the Boston Globe.

The National Weather Service says it’s a rate phenomenon that baffles weather watchers.
