Lund cutting 140 jobs at Minnesota plant
Posted on 12 November 2008
Lund is laying off about 140 workers at its New York Mills, Minn., manufacturing plant.
The layoffs were announced last week and came days prior to a one-week production shutdown, which went into effect Nov. 10, according to a report in the New York Mills Herald newspaper. The shutdown had previously been scheduled.
A spokesman for Brunswick
, which owns Lund
, did not immediately return calls for comment this morning.
Brunswick previously announced plans to eliminate about 1,500 jobs, in addition to closing plants throughout the country, in order to save money.
Last month, Brunswick announced a 22 percent drop in net sales, driven by a 28 percent decline in marine sales.
For the third quarter, the Brunswick Boat Group reported a 36 percent drop in net sales to $392.5 million, from $613.9 million in the year-ago quarter. The segment had an operating loss of $537.4 for the recent quarter, compared to a loss of $90.3 million last year.To read the newspaper report, click here.
