MRAA hands outs scholarships, names board

The Marine Retailers Association of America’s Educational Foundation presented two Technical Scholarship awards at its recent conference in Las Vegas.
Thomas Dempsey, a Massachusetts native and a student at The Landing School in Arundel, Maine, received a $3,000 scholarship. Dempsey has an associate’s degree in business administration and has worked as a deckhand on the educational schooner the Roseway. He also has been crewing for the Adventuress, a 1924 Fife ketch out of Newport, R.I.
Nicholas J. Welch, who is attending WyoTech in Daytona, Fla., also received a $3,000 scholarship. With a 99 percent academic average, Welch is concentrating on diesel technology. While in high school, he was a member of the FCA and Fish Club where he developed a passion for fishing and subsequently a career in the technical area of the marine industry.

elected its 2009 board of directors:
