Jim Johnstone joined the Westbrook, Conn.-based Gowrie Group of Companies as a producer in the boat/yacht department.

Johnstone brings extensive marine and sailing industry expertise that will enable the firm to broaden its reach into the boating market and the Rhode Island community served by Gowrie's Newport office, according to the marine insurer.

For the last 14 years Johnstone has been a sales manager and production manager for sailboat builder J/Boats. He won the Laser Radial World Championships at age 18 and has won several championships within the J/Boat classes.

Johnstone lives in Barrington, R.I. with his wife and three children.
