Water access symposium being planned for 2010
The event is designed to help communities, organizations, businesses, and individuals address waterfront access challenges by showcasing successful models and tools from around the country.
Building on the inaugural symposium held in Norfolk, Va., in 2007, participants in 2010 will increase awareness of the economic, social, cultural and environmental values of waterfronts and how water-dependent uses play an integral part in the sustainability of coastal communities.
Government officials and decision makers, members of the commercial fishing, marine and tourism industries, developers and property owners, business owners, community planners, activists and others are encouraged to join the discussion.
The symposium steering committee is being formed, and includes national representation from state Sea Grant programs, the National Sea Grant Law Center, organizations like BoatU.S., as well as Maine Coastal Program and Island Institute.
