Mercury, union aim to finalize negotiations by Monday

Mercury Marine and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers continued negotiations this morning, following a six-hour session Wednesday, company officials say.

The sessions are expected to keep the talks on schedule to meet the goal of finalizing negotiations by Monday.

Mercury is attempting to decrease underutilization of its facilities, and consolidating its operations in Fond du Lac, Wis., or Stillwater, Okla., is one possibility.

A decision by Mercury regarding its next step would be determined in part by the union's response to the tentative agreement, the company says.

The only way to survive in these conditions is to reduce costs as much as possible.  Condensing operations from two partially used facilities to one facility is an appropriate management cost cutting decision.  Mercury must move the operations to the facility that is the most efficient in terms of labor costs.

Time for Mercury to move to a warmer climate and lower their production costs and their Labor cost by dumping the Union. Maybe this would make their parts and Motors more affordable and help to bring back boating.

Unions are not needed any more.
