Evinrude promotion offers five-year E-TEC warranty

BRP recently launched a "Best Deal on the Water" retail promotion for consumers who purchase an eligible Evinrude E-TEC outboard 40-hp and above.

The sales promotion, which began Sept. 15 and runs through Dec. 22, offers the consumer a five-year BRP factory-backed limited warranty (three-year factory warranty, plus an additional two-year B.E.S.T. coverage). Consumers must purchase and take delivery of an eligible Evinrude E-TEC engine from a participating Evinrude dealer during the promotion period to qualify.

"We continue to provide our dealers with traffic-driving promotions in an effort to boost retail sales," said Roch Lambert, vice president and general manager of the Ski-Doo, Sea-Doo and Evinrude division, in a statement. "The 'Best Deal on the Water' will provide Evinrude dealers an additional push on retail leading into the heavier boat-show selling season."

Sounds great for the engine builder but what about the engine seller, the dealer. Promotions like this take away a huge profit center, extended warranties.  Most customers will purchase the extended warranty when offered and the dealer can make some money.  There are many ways engine builders can help dealers, like eliminating extended warranties and passing the cost savings on in the engine price.  They could also offer the customer or dealer a sales rebate, cash money to make the sale. Let's let the dealers make some money and control the sale, and the engine builders build engines.
